10 Benefits of Drinking Tea Over Coffee

tea-talk-7Tea is a great social adhesive, bringing friends and family together to sit and talk. Moreover, it’s benefits are plenty and rewarding for those who stay loyal to their cup. While coffee is a drink of choice for many, it is heartening to know 3 out of 5 coffee drinkers globally are now switching to tea. If you’re looking for reasons to sip cups of tea daily, we give you ten good ones:

1. Nourishes your body – Tea is good for you but beyond that general statement tea is absolutely the perfect beverage to improve your life, health and well-being. Tea’s rich antioxidants, multi-vitamins and minerals make it the ultimate whole body wellness drink.

2. Keeps you hydrated – Unlike coffee, tea actually hydrates your body, which proves a fundamental factor in enhancing focus. Tea replenishes your fluid intake since it’s pure water with a flavor. Moreover, it keeps your skin hydrated and glowing.

3. Detoxifies your body – Tea has been documented to contain a lot more antioxidants than are present in coffee. Antioxidants assist in clearing free radicals in the body, keep it healthy, help you feel fresh and luckily tea has lots of them!

4. Boosts energy and endurance – Contrary to popular belief, tea has the same amount of caffeine as coffee. However, coffee can bring you down once the initial high has subsided. The slow release of caffeine combined with tea’s main stimulants leaves you revved up but totally chilled out.

5. Clears your mind – You must have never heard anyone say, “I am going to go and relax with a cup of coffee.” Tea is known to be an anti-depressant – it calms your nerves and invigorates your body. So the next time you are looking to boost your mood, get a cup instead of hitting the bar.

6. Protects your bones – People who drink tea on a daily basis have stronger bones and are less likely to break their hip in the long run, due to the high levels of catechins in tea. Having 3-5 cups everyday is certain to keep your bones healthy.

7. Protects your teeth – Tea contains fluoride that protects your teeth and doesn’t stain them unlike coffee. A reasonable amount of tea will keep you and your teeth happy.

8. Strengthens the immune system – Tea is also known to be good at keeping your immunity strong. Drinking tea on a regular basis can sure protect you from frequent sickness. Plus you can include tea blends and tisanes in your diet that contain immunity boosting herbs like ginseng, licorice root, ginger etc.

9. Helps in maintaining weight – Unlike regular vanilla and hazelnut lattes that are loaded with high amounts of sugar and calories, tea is perfect in it’s form for the weight watchers and people who are switching to a cleaner lifestyle.

10. Let’s you drink more – And finally. Can you imagine if you drank five or six cups of coffee every day? Your heart would explode. Tea has higher diversity of flavor profiles and you can open your taste buds on a much wider scale with tea. From black and green teas to tea blends and even caffeine free herbal infusions, you are sure to find ones you like.

Leaves or beans, tea wins hands down. So ponder on all the information we leave you with, while we go grab a cup ourselves!

REVIEW – Energy Green Tea by Teatulia

Review Teatulia

Dry Leaves
The round bag consists of matcha and finely cut herbs. The aroma is sweet vegetal and earthy.

Infused Tea/Unique Characteristics
The tea cups out a light bodied, honey-amber color liquor that has a mild, fresh and fruity aroma. On the palate, the complexity unravels through a burst of unique flavors. The top mixed fruity flavors compliment the hidden woody and grassy undertones, with an extraordinary liquorice-like sweetness. The ingredients maintain harmony, resulting in a smooth, delicious, delicate and well balanced energising infusion.

Infusion
One bag was infused in 200 ml boiling water for 4 minutes. The infusion was interesting with a very supple texture, no astringency and a wonderful mouthfeel and after taste.

I believe in the power of natural herbs and I am thrilled to review Teatulia’s energy. The brilliant fact about these blends is that they were formulated for one of the mountain climbers in the world, to keep him energised and hydrated on the summit of Mount Everest. And the tea is Sherpas approved too! I’ve drank this tea for a week as my pre and post workout drink and I think this stimulating matcha blend will definitely waken your senses.

Why Runners and Athletes Should Drink Tea

run lola run

When I talk about tea, you probably think about the desi milk-chai, with generous amount of milk and sugar. You don’t necessarily think about, say, runners and athletes. But that’s a misconception. You’ve definitely heard someone tell you that tea is good for you. But beyond that general statement, you perhaps don’t know that tea has number of performance enhancing benefits that make it especially ‘a must drink’ for all runners and athletes.

Science and real-time global case studies prove that drinking tea supports physical activity through its preventive functions. It aids in providing more energy for training, quicker recovery, and is an unmatched nutritional tool for better performance. Tea helps athletes with improved alertness, more strength and an extra surge of energy during long workouts. The very high dose of antioxidants help the body metabolise fats for fuel late in the workouts, for needed strength endurance.

2004 study found that tea improved endurance capacity. ”Tea markedly improved endurance capacity and stimulated lipid use.” And a 2006 study concluded that “the endurance-improving effects of tea were mediated, at least partly, by increased metabolic capacity and utilisation of fatty acid as a source of energy.” In simple language it basically means that tea was found to improve strength and endurance during aerobic activity, and that increased endurance was in part due to an increase in fat being burnt for energy.

Tea is fantastic and also a smarter choice than coffee, soda or energy drinks. It’s true that caffeine is a proven performance enhancer that increases endurance, improves alertness and makes running feel easier. Although tea provides only half as much caffeine as coffee or energy drinks, it makes you feel good at the right places without any side effects, such as acidity and bloating. The acid in coffee and energy drinks can be hard, leading to heartburn and upset stomach. So, if you look at it, tea is your all natural ‘power drink’ that offers a boost and can even make you healthier.

I believe tea is very personal. In my opinion, I would recommend that fitness enthusiasts should collect an assortment of teas – black, oolong, green, white and herbal blends, and see what they enjoy the most. Maybe it’s delicate green tea in the morning, oolong after a run, or a herbal blend without any caffeine to wind down after an evening run. And remember, quality counts in tea. So, make sure that you choose whole leaf, high quality, all natural, fresh and premium tea. For added flavour and health boost, try infusing your tea with fresh fruits, herbs and spices.

Get to know your tea, experiment and explore, develop your relationship and enjoy your fitness journey with tea. It is your all round performance drink. So, drink up and see how tea can step up your game!

REVIEW – Coffee Leaf Tea By Wize Monkey

Coffee Leaf TeaWize Monkey has come out with a unique product, that can revolutionize the coffee industry with something you may have unheard of – Coffee Leaf Tea. The new tea on the block, besides being proven to contain more antioxidants than green tea, believes in creating a sustainable, revenue system for the coffee farming community in Latin America.

Thanks to our friends at Wize Monkey for sharing their journey and sending us their lovely samples.

Description of Tea
The dry leaves are crushed with shades of brown and green. The aroma is grassy, leafy and herbal – very similar to guayusa and yerba mate.

Infused Tea/Unique Characteristics
The leaves brew a bright amber color infusion. The taste…it’s different! The infusion is smooth, malty and quite similar to black tea, without it’s bitterness and dry aftertaste. The aroma is earthy, like fresh cut grass, with notes of wildflower and dried hay, and a pleasant sweet undertone.

Infusion
Coffee leaves were infused in 150 ml, pre-boiled water (90-95 C), for 3 minutes. I got one infusion which was bright, fresh, engaging and well balanced.

The other teas from Wize Monkey to watch out for are Minty Marvel and Mango Party. The blends are very refreshing, unique in both taste and aroma. This is a kind of tea that is surely going to rock.

Are Flavored Teas Good For Health?

Tea in India 1

“As much as you can eat healthy, it’s also important to remember to drink healthy too. Tea is very healing.” – Kristin Chenoweth

Yes, definitely. Sometimes, life gets better when you jazz it up a bit, so does tea. But what kind of flavor tea you are having, defines if it’s healthy or not.

Flavored teas are becoming popular on account of varied tastes to suit an individual’s taste buds. Generally, black, green and oolong teas are used for flavoring and they are infused with fruits, flowers, herbs, organic essential oils and spices, to bring out the perfect blend. Teas like vanilla, mango, peach, strawberry and cardamom are flavoured with organic essential oils. But as flavored teas, with their strong added flavors, dominate the taste of tea, many manufacturers tend to use lower quality tea leaves for perfect flavoring. Sometimes, the flavours are also compromised using cheap and artificial essential oils. So, make sure to buy tea that uses high quality full leaf tea leaves as base, and organic essential oils and herbs for perfect flavoring. The idea should be to always mix health benefits with good taste because that’s what teaconomics is all about.
