TEA REVIEW – AV2 Black by Darjeeling Tea Leaves

Infused tea/ Unique characteristics : The leaves infuse a delicate golden honey-amber color liquor. Aroma is floral bouquet, with rich vegetal, slightly spicy muskiness. On the palate, the infusion has walk-into-an-orchard kind of a contemporary feeling. It starts with a sweet gentle floral take off, very smooth texture, subtle earthy and mineral undertones on the mid-tongue, buttery mouthfeel, mild dry-aftertaste and zero astringency. The body of the tea has an engaging thickness, that pairs very well with its soft tannins.

Infusion : 1 level tsp of leaves were infused in 200 ml pre-boiled water at 90C, for 3 minutes. Being inquisitive about the hidden tasting notes, I chose to make my infusion gutty, something suggested for soft clonals. For the second infusion, I brewed 2 tsp of leaves for 4 mins at the same water temperature, and it was exciting. The tea got a facelift. Mild oaky-woodiness and malty spike, with jasmine-lily like floral overtones, together with a bit of mouth-puckering astringency and an inherent underlying strength of flavor, complemented the earthy flavors and berry-like sweet undertone – is the zing that the first infusion was missing.

Sampling this tea was an adventure and this is the kind of tea that I would generally pack if I am travelling up-hills, just to show my respect for Newton’s first law and challenge this tea further – see how it’s flavor-profile would change when it’s brewed in high-mountain mineral water. Overall, this AV2 (Ambari Vegetative) is fine, it combines simple, subtle and mellow flavors. Although it is not one of the best pitch-pipe for clonals, I believe it will be instantly liked by tea lovers who have a special interest for instrumental music for sleep, focus, work and relaxation.

REVIEW – Darjeeling Sencha by Udyan Tea

Sencha Green

Description of Tea
The dry leaves consist of broken and medium sized flat, lightly curled, needle shaped leaves which are 2-3.5 cm in length. The leaves are dark green in color, with scattered hints of fresh green. The aroma is grassy, sweet and refreshing.

Infused Tea/Unique Characteristics
The leaves brew a greenish golden liquor. On the palate the flavor goes through a spectrum of sweet, grassy and floral notes. The infusion is medium-light bodied without any astringency, and has a wonderful silky mouthfeel. The mild vegetal flavors, with light citrus undertones, compliment the sweet lingering aftertaste. Overall, a delicious and harmonious tea with lots of flavor and aroma!

Infusion
4 gms of leaves were infused in 150 ml pre-boiled water at 70 C for 2 minutes. I got 3 infusions which were well balanced. The third infusion at 4 minutes lingered nicely with a pleasantly mild astringent edge.

Darjeeling Sencha celebrates the most popular tea, native to Japan. Although this tea cannot be compared to the traditional sencha, it does contain the classic sweet and grassy characteristics that are reminiscent of a finely steamed sencha. Personally, if you like sophistication and are a quality green tea drinker, this is your all-day infusion.

REVIEW – AV2 Exotic Black by Udyan Tea

Black Tea

Description of Tea
The dry leaves are a mix of light to dark greens and copper, with some scattered fuzzy silver buds. The texture of the leaves is supple, velvety and smooth, with fresh, sweet, grassy and slightly floral aroma.

Infused Tea/Unique Characteristics
When infused, the light honey-amber liquor conveys fine delicate aromatic notes, that are both vegetal and floral – reminiscent of spring flowers. The infusion is medium-bodied, smooth and crisp, with mild astringency, and a beautiful creamy mouthfeel. The lovely top floral notes balance well with hints of malt and fruits in the finish, attributing to a fine first flush darjeeling tea.

Infusion
Three teaspoons of leaves were infused in 500 ml pre-boiled water (90-95 C), for 4 minutes in a teapot. The honey-sweet floral elements built steadily sip after sip, into a lovely long-lasting finish for which AV2 (Ambari Vegetal 2) are so prized.
